This
year the all the money raised from the festival will go towards
building the new hospice in Broomfield. We currently operate from
a Victorian Building in New London Road, Chelmsford and two outreach
day care centres in Maldon and Braintree. The two day care centres
will remain open but the Victorian building in Chelmsford no longer
meets care standard regulations and will have to close. Also the
demand on our services has doubled over the last five years and
we are in desperate need of expansion. Without a new hospice we
would be forced to close and there would be no hospice care for
Mid Essex.
Therefore
it was decided to try to raise the extra £6 million that it
would cost to build a new hospice. The good news is that we have
already raised £4.2 million towards that total and the building
work is really coming on, with the roof now on the new hospice.
The
new hospice is being built in separate grounds near Broomfield hospital.
It will be a really special place and enable us to continue to provide
our specialist care to patients with life limiting illnesses.
